Why We're Not an Agency

The traditional agency model is broken for early-stage software startups. Here's why we operate as a venture studio and technical co-founder instead.

If you're a domain expert with a validated B2B SaaS idea, your first instinct might be to hire a development agency to build it. But after spending years in the industry, we've realized that the traditional agency model is fundamentally misaligned with the needs of early-stage software startups.

Here is why we decided to build Titian Consultancy as a venture studio, not an agency.

The Agency Misalignment

Agencies bill by the hour or by project scope. Their primary incentive is to increase billable hours or deliver the bare minimum scope as quickly as possible to move on to the next client.

This creates a massive misalignment of incentives:

  • You want: A scalable, production-ready product that delights users.
  • They want: To finish the agreed-upon features and collect the final invoice.

When you're building a SaaS company, the initial launch is just the beginning. Real products require continuous iteration, technical maintenance, and deep strategic alignment.

The Co-Founder Approach

We structured Titian Consultancy differently. We want to be in the same boat as our partners.

By operating with a Three-Layer Structure (Launch Fee, Equity Stake, Managed Ops), we align our success with yours:

1. We share the risk (and the upside)

By taking a reduced upfront fee combined with an equity stake, we aren't just building a product for a client; we're building a product for our portfolio. If the product fails, we lose. If it succeeds, we win together.

2. We build for the long term

Because we have equity and manage the ongoing operations, we have zero incentive to cut corners. We build on solid, scalable architectures (like NestJS, Next.js, and PostgreSQL) because we are the ones who have to maintain it. Technical debt hurts us just as much as it hurts you.

3. We bring product strategy, not just code

Agencies expect you to hand them a perfectly detailed spec. But early-stage products need flexibility and strategic product decisions. As your technical co-founders, we push back on bad ideas, suggest better UX flows, and help you focus on the features that actually drive revenue.

Who This Is For

This model isn't for everyone. If you just need a simple marketing website or a quick MVP to throw away later, an agency or a freelancer is probably a better fit.

But if you are a domain expert who understands a specific B2B problem deeply, and you want a dedicated technical partner to build a real, scalable software business with you—that's exactly who we are looking for.
